Doing it for the kids
This will be the second year that children’s entertainer and all round funnyman, Tomfoolery, takes to the stage with a Christmas show, and it’s also his third year bringing The Beans on Toast Show, to the Capitol.
Whilst he’s not complacent, Tom Hunter (the man behind the orange and black striped socks) is aware that many children – and adults – are keen to see his shows, but until now not everyone has been able to fully enjoy the performances.
“I’ve learnt a lot over the years of working with children and now, especially with my involvement with The Springboard Project, I have come to realise that regardless of how approachable I think I am there are lots of young people out there that struggle with the environment I create. This really hit home when I discovered a young man that really enjoyed my shows, but took days to get over the sensory overload that comes with such an event. Young people with SEN (Special Educational Needs) still want to enjoy the same Tomfoolery! They just need to process it in a different way to others and their parents want them to do it in an environment where they can all feel relaxed.”
“This year I’ve ensured that one of the Beans shows and two of the Christmas performances will be SEN friendly. The shows will be the same but among other things, it won’t be so dark in the auditorium, I’ll be holding back on the building of suspense and I’ll be letting everyone know what they can expect to see and when so there are not too many big surprises! There will also be a storyboard style video to watch prior to the show, detailing the venue, access, seating and facilities to help families prepare. But most importantly I’m hoping everyone can relax and enjoy the show knowing that this is a SEN performance.”
He added: “I really want all children to be involved and feel included in what I’m doing. I love bringing cheer to children and if there’s anything I can do to make that easier, for the children and their parents, I’m up for it. Abracadabra, beans on toast!”
To book tickets for either Christmasfoolery or the Beans on Toast Show, visit www.thecapitolhorsham.com or call the Capitol box office on 01403 750220.
Focus Media is gearing up to get the show on the road again with client Tomfoolery with not one, but TWO fantastic shows.
Tomfoolery (aka Tom Hunter) enjoyed a hugely successful run of his Christmas show last December at The Capitol in Horsham and we’re thrilled to announce he will be returning to the venue this year with his new show – Christmasfoolery!
As if a new festive show wasn’t enough, Focus Media has also lined up dates for Tom to return to the Capitol in October half term with his sell-out show The Beans on Toast Show.
Focus Media Account Director, Lisa Brace, said: “We really enjoy working with Tom. He’s an exciting client to work with and promote. Last year’s Christmas show was a huge success and I can’t wait to get promoting Tom’s latest festive creation – even if it is summer.”

Seven Ideal years
FOCUS MEDIA celebrates seven consecutive and successful years in 2016 working on the most iconic home show in the world.
In partnership with the Ideal Home Show’s owner Media 10, Focus Media has developed a successful free tickets promotional strategy for this show.
Focus Media carefully targets regional newspapers and provides each of them with 500 pairs of tickets to give away to their readers.
Their readers love these types of promotions because they are getting something for nothing, and newspapers also love this style of promotion because they can add real value to their newspapers as well as being associated with an iconic brand.
For the first time this year, the Sunday Mirror also ran the promotion.
The show is now in its second year at London Olympia after moving from its original home at Earl’s Court because of redevelopment.
Tomfoolery really did save Christmas
TWENTY-FIVE near sell-out shows at The Capitol Theatre’s Studio in Horsham in December was testament that the top children’s entertainer in the south east really did save Christmas.
Tomfoolery’s infectious brand of comedy and audience participation kept his audience of youngsters and parents spellbound as more than 2,000 people saw his unique and brand-new Christmas show.
The show was jointly written by Tom Hunter (AKA Tomfoolery) and Focus Media’s Lisa Brace. Lisa Brace said: “The audience loved the show and both Tom and I were delighted with the finished result.”
Focus Media will continue to handle press and PR for this rising star.
There are plans to bring a new version of the show back to the Capitol Theatre for December 2016.

The Ideal Home Show at Christmas has moved to London Olympia and Focus Media is working with the show’s owner, Media 10 Ltd to run the ever-popular free tickets promotion to the show.
Newspaper readers can claim two free tickets to the biggest Christmas show in the UK which runs from November 25 – 29, by simply going on to the show’s website and putting in a unique code which will allow them to download two free tickets.
Focus Media’s Phil Merry said: “This tried and tested format is so popular with readers, newspapers and Media 10 Ltd. Everyone is a winner.”
Tomfoolery Saves Christmas
Focus Media created and launched an innovative marketing material to promote the show of a client recently.
Client Tomfoolery and account director for Focus Media, Lisa Brace, co-authored a children's book, entitled 'Tomfoolery Saves Christmas' which was launched on October 26 at The Capitol Theatre, Horsham. The book is the story which the show of the same name is based on and is due to run at The Capitol Studio from 10-24 December 2015.
Lisa explained the reason for the creation of the book, she said: "We are very excited about Tomfoolery's upcoming show, and to help create a buzz around the show we felt it would be interesting to create a book before the show opened.
"The book will serve as a way of giving people a good taste of what the show's storyline is - as this is a brand new show - as well as working as sophisticated marketing material that will continue to reiterate the message of the show."
She added: "It was also a fantastic experience for me to be involved with, and was something of a lifelong ambition which I'm thrilled has been fulfilled."
The book is available to buy at various outlets, as well as on-line, information is available via Facebook.com/tomfooleryuk.
Tickets are on-sale for the show from www.thecapitolhorsham.com
Focus Media is looking for someone to illustrate a children's picture book.
The book, which has been written with children's entertainer Tom Foolery, is due to be sold alongside a Christmas show based on the same story, at The Capitol, Horsham in December. The book is expected to go on sale by mid-October, therefore an illustrator would need to be able to work to a tight deadline.
This could be an ideal job for an art graduate looking to add to their portfolio as Focus Media's client is looking for designs which are new and exciting.
If you're interested, get in touch with Lisa Brace by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or call her on 07760 481383 for further information.
WITH THREE weeks to go before opening night, Tomfoolery has sold out five shows at the Capitol Theatre’s Studio in Horsham. From an original three show contract, two more were added and they quickly sold out too. Phil Merry said: “This is truly remarkable. I know he is a big talent and based on this response we will be looking to take Tom forward in the coming months.” The new show will be based around his Beans on Toast Tour and promises to be a real treat for the lucky children who will see him in action at the end of October.
WITH A NEW garden club soon to be launched, Focus Media is working very closely with Hillier Garden Centres on many aspects of their new initiative. The club will provide members with unique offers and discounts at all Hiillier Garden Centres and is due to be launched in the autumn. Focus Media at Chelsea
TO SUPPORT Hillier Garden Centre and to get a better understanding of their involvement with the Chelsea Flower Show, Focus Media’s Lisa Brace spent a day working on the Hillier stand at this international renowned show. Lisa said:” It was brilliant to see the show in action from the point of view of working there and I can now see how we can improve certain aspects of Hillier’s presence at next year’s show.”
CHILDREN’S entertainer and former firefighter Tomfoolery needed help to make the move from firefighter by day and part - time entertainer by evening and approached Focus Media for help and support. We looked at what Tomfoolery (AKA Tom Hunter) had to offer and decided we could help. In Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey Tom has already built up a huge following as a result of his children’s parties and outdoor shows, but he wanted to move to the next level.
As a result of our first meeting we all decided that a theatre show was the way forward and The Studio, capacity 100, at the Capitol Theatre, Horsham was booked for three shows to coincide with half term break in October. As a result of the shows being announced and six months before the actual performances, nearly 50% of the tickets have been sold and at this early stage we envisage adding extra shows. Focus Media’s Lisa Brace said: “ When I first saw Tom in action at Hillier Garden Centre, Horsham, I was blown away. He has a brilliant way with children and they are captivated and enthralled when in his presence. I’m extremely excited about working with Tom and helping him to develop into a major name in children’s entertainment.”
TWO more of Media 10’s flagship shows will again come under the wing of Focus Media this year; Grand Designs Live, London and Grand Designs Live, Birmingham. The ongoing success of the regional promotions which Focus Media organises for Media 10 has resulted in Focus Media being appointed for a fifth successive year to handle regional press ticket promotions. Phil Merry said: “ The attendance at each of the shows is steadily growing and this year the Birmingham show is being extended by one day to cope with the extra demand. Our continued partnership with Media 10 has helped with this growth and ongoing success.”
